What is the achievement expected from an aesthetic application? Is it beauty or self-esteem?

There exists a perspective which sees the aging as an illness. An illness that can be prevented, postponed.

Death, according to this approach, is an unnatural and, since it cannot be cured, inevitable result of this disease. The signs of aging could be observed physically, in the organs and on the skin, as well as mentally and socially. There is a consensus about the insufficiency of the classical definition of health, which is “the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being”. This state of well-being, which is not sustainable, is considered as an instant indication of health, which represents a certain time interval.

In order to have a sustainable health, in its universal meaning, it is necessary to approach it with an updateable system, due to the holistic approach. As you know, up to now it has not been possible to identify definite cure for, almost, none of the chronic diseases, including diabetes. They can only be held under control with medicines (with the risk of side-effects). Once the patients stop using medicines, such deceases act up.  It is now time to give up this substitutive approach that lacks a holistic perspective.  The human body should be seen as a multi-layer and integral organism, rather than being a living specie.

Health of the persons   who apply programs that promise a holistic approach,  could extend the life time of that person and offer a life without any disease, by making this status of well-being sustainable in all parts that make up itself (biological, social, mental, economic and mental/spiritual) . However, the time which is spent carelessly and clumsily, accompanies the aging together with wrinkles, sagging, deformation, staining and  finally “”loss of beauty and attention”.

Complementary and corrective plastic (aesthetic) surgical applications step in just at this point and they aim at stopping, correcting and reshaping this process. The achievement in this process, which is often successful, brings not only physical but also psychological satisfaction as well as social approval.

At this point, we can argue that, aesthetic surgical procedures and operations are the real processes that bring health in its final/broadest meaning ; as they are practices that provide solutions to personsˊ health and to the whole of their holistic and basic needs, provided, of course, that they are made with appropriate techniques in full respect to the codes of ethics by qualified, well-equipped, experienced plastic surgeons.

Then, let us state that, the most significant achievement of these persons, who get beauty, freshness and attention rather than health, through aesthetic interventions, is self-esteem and self-respect. Then we are faced this grave question: Could every aesthetic intervention be considered at the same time as a solution to the problem of lack/insufficiency of self-confidence and self-respect?

The answer is hidden at the beginning of the article. If your think that aging is disease that can be prevented yes, every aesthetic demand is demand for also self-esteem. If your answer is negative, that is, aging and death are defined as a natural inevitable process; aesthetic procedures lose their function, importance and usefulness automatically.

Let us remember, WHO (World Health Organization) has updated the definition of Health and added, the sustainability factor to the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being”. The new criterion is the only parameter that cannot be guaranteed in aesthetic applications. Nevertheless, it cannot be possible to carry out any surgical without remaining insensitive to an aesthetic demand. This is so, because, aesthetic sensitivity from table order/manners to the style of communication, from harmony of dressing to the musical harmony) necessitates its completion in case of its absence, as one of the basic needs of human being.
