. Hello Mr. Sarifakioglu, we would like to say that we are pleased to welcome you. How are you?
– Thank you, I am fine.

Can you tell us about yourself?
– Of course. I graduated from Uludag University in 1991 and completed Plastic Surgery Specialist education at Cukurova University in 1998. I got the Associate Professor title in 2008. Since then, I worked as a consultant and physician in different hospitals, private and foundation hospitals until 2012. I opened the Gestalt Aesthetic and Surgery Center in 2012, July. I still continue my work in this center.

You spent your time quite well. What is medicine for you, Mr. Sarifakioglu? Why did you choose to be a physician?
– In brief, to produce value, share for good, right and beautiful things, to guide the society and serve for the people for better world, and to “touch” those in need.

Although you are busy, you are satisfied with your job. What is your reason to choose this field of specialization?
–In the high school years, I was one of those who read “History of Art” from Croce and “History of Thought” from Hancerlioglu. I remember absorbing/adopting all the philosophical views of the beautiful ones before becoming a doctor. These reading and mind practices were excavation works of my aesthetic views. The construction/experience continued over years and I met with Plastic Surgery, aesthetics framework, engineering, in the Faculty of Medicine. I had the opportunity to perform and develop myself in the field of plastic surgery specialization which requires algorithmic thinking, planning and strategy and performance experience. I remember with mercy and respect Prof. Dr. Onder Kıvanc who led me in this process, was the light on my way with his suggestions and recommendations

What do you think a person needs to have to be a physician? It is absolutely a difficult job/profession, so let’s ask that What are the specific challenges of your profession?
– Briefly, it requires awareness of renunciation and dedication. Studies in the medical field are carried out in the areas of service, education and research. Each area has its own specific working challenges. “Primum non nocere”, preventive medicine and public health studies are delicate subjects that deserve evaluation without considering politics. There are issues/problems that need to be jointly designated with Non-governmental organizations, political parties, international organizations and the media. Recently, the most worrying and disgusting issues in my profession are the working conditions of the physicians in private and/or public, and universities, the physicians who are forced to work under the capital owners without experience, the health policies which focus on economic profit and score (performance-related dividing) instead of focusing on quality and recovery/improvement, frontier infringements of the physicians who do not have education and license and experience due to economic return (especially aesthetic procedures), academic studies which are not used to contribute to the national economy, the new universities without qualification and institutional equipment, and the people who get education in these universities. The patient satisfactions and happy smile of a child who we contribute the recovery period gives us resistance to these difficulties and become the antidote against these difficulties.

Would you like to share with us a case or event that makes you enjoy and during your profession career?
– The elderly and children whose happiness and satisfaction appear on their eyes touches me rather than words to express the happiness and satisfaction. What impressed me most is that an elderly patient who I treated/performed skin cancer treatment 12 years ago, said that only you could operate to remove skin lesion on his/her face, and the smile of this elderly patients which expressed his/her happiness when she/he saw me after much effort she/he made.

Can you tell us a little about your works in the field?
– I am a private medical examination physician. I’m in love with Plastic Surgery, the questions of “how is it better, easier, more harmless, traceless, etc.” seeks answers in my mind always. I know this love is not platonic. My special field of interest and the most common reasons for consultation are psycho-aesthetic needs and expectations. Rhinoplasty and Mammoplasty and Facial and Skin Rejuvenation procedures which are performed with growth factors obtained from the person’s own blood, are called PRP, are the most frequently performed procedures. I will organize an interdisciplinary academic meeting on the main theme of “Frontier Infringements in Medicine Professions” in the coming months. Medical specialization is not obtained/acquired easily, I believe that people should respect for this specialization/expertise which is obtained/acquired in difficult conditions. We are a group who adopts that “boundary/frontier is honor.” I state that people should respect for labor and specialization in terms of healthy growth and patient health safety. Ethics and Protective Community Health are other subjects that I care about.

As far as we can see, you are very busy. Do you have patients from other cities for treatment? If so, how do you perform the treatment and post treatment cases of these patients?
– The patient is a person with a problem, the physician is a person who finds solution to this problem with his/her knowledge and approach. A colleague in the Plastic Surgery, indicates that plastic surgery is a “problem solving skill” Whether the problem is in the body, psychological or mental inability or environmental, a plastic reconstructive and plastic surgeon should understand this problem first, listen and then implement the plan with the most appropriate strategy. Paying price is inevitable for my colleagues who do not give necessary importance to these requirements. Control and follow-up are essential requirements as much as the procedure performed. We should not perform elective procedures for those who we cannot make control and follow-up in accordance with “Primum non nocere” principle.

Mr. Sarifakioglu, thank you for your valuable information, nice conversation and for your time. If you have recommendations for patients can you share with us?
-Any work done carelessly and unplanned, whether it is short or simple, conduces to failure. Any work done carefully and in a planned way is much closer to success whether it is difficult or risky. Being aware of this is to be a good physician. We should consider our patient not only with the expectation expressed but also the psychological, intellectual, social and environmental requirements as a whole, because the beauty is always compatible with the whole.

Respectfully
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nedim Sarıfakıoğlu
