“Golden Ratio”
The ideal location for eyebrows is determined with a systemic, personal and holistic evaluation taking into account the general picture reflecting the personal genetic codes of the patient. In this article, we will overview the information accepted as reference while determining the ideal place for the eyebrows.
For most women, the location and the shape of th eyebrows is one of the most important aesthetic factors that completes the beauty. When we look at the magazine covers and the popular models since 1970s, we see that the look of modern women is reflected by high, long, wide-curved eyebrows.
Independent of whether your face is oval or curved your forehead is wide or narrow and your eyes are being big or small, there is an ideal place and ratio for the eyebrows. The beautiful is the one that achieves harmony both “within itself and together with the surrounding environment.
Ellenbogen (1983) is the (first) person who defined the ideal eyebrows location. Therefore, his name is given to the standards that he determined for the place of ideal eyebrows. Though, this location depends on the location of the facial bones;
- The ideal eyebrow starts from the imaginary line drawn upward, from the nose wing on the same side (A)
- The highest point of the eyebrow should be the point where the imaginary line starting from the side of the line surrounding the pupil intersects with the eyebrow, it should correspond exactly to the point where the same imaginary line, passing through the middle point of the pupil, intersects with the eyebrow (B)
- The place where eyebrow ends is the line that starts from the nose wing and passes through the junction of upper and lower eyelids (C). The highest level of the eyebrow is divided into 3 equal parts.
- The ending place of the eyebrow would be a little higher, over the parallel line, compared to the beginning point (D)
When this difference of height is more than normal (0.5 cm.), it gives the person a facial expression of someone who is confused and confronted with a surprise. This expression (fox look) is common after false injections of Botulinum toxin. When the end of the eyebrow is not as high as the normal level compared to the starting point, it gives a sad and tired expression to the person’s face. The ideal eyebrow is the one which is smooth and symmetrical and in harmony with the face.
Deep grooves, wrinkles and eyelid droops between the eyes, forehead and eyebrows are the most common signs of aging in this region. Most of these symptoms can be stopped and / or cured by short and easy applications made by qualified hands in an office environment.
The actual contribution of the eyebrows to your image is not just due to its ideal place and / or shape, but rather its harmony, for the person, with other aesthetic units of the face, such as hair, forehead and eye area. We call the closest possible value of the harmony as “Golden Ratio” and the ones who has it simply “Beautiful”.
