Double Bubble Deformity

A rarely seen complication after breast augmentation surgery: Double Bubble Deformity

This complication is seen as a surgical error in some cases such as placing the implant in the wrong region. It is also seen as a result of anatomical features of the patient in some cases and almost always as a result of subcutaneous implant placement. This unnatural second breast fold is noticed as a second bulge that is located under normal breast fold which is called inframammary fold.

The other reasons of the double bubble is that pregnancy weight gain and between the areola nipple (NAC) and breast fold place is short or that areola is larger than the breast. Also, the downward replacement of the large implant, the tiny long breast form which is called tuberous, and the scar tissue related to previous operations at the breast fold place make easier the formation of double bubble.

Another and the most important reason of double bubble deformity is capsular contracture that means the accumulation of excessive scar tissue around the implant and that its only treatment is removal implant.

The solution is to wait for the final result to be completed for the first 6 months.

Other surgical options include moving the implant placed to over the muscle and/or dual plan revision procedures (subcutaneous), mastopexy (breast augmentation) or reconstruction of the normal breast fold (secondary).
